Christmas Cats Flee the Bee

The Christmas Cats Can’t Help When the Hive Elects a Bad Bee. The bees learn a valuable lesson about making important decisions without enough information. They also learn that everyone needs to work to earn the trust of others.

My Thoughts Christmas Cats Flee the Bee by Constance Corcoran Wilson

The Christmas Cats are at it again, trying to help others in need.  However, this time they may not be able to save the day for the bees and their queen.  It teaches children a bit about democracy and the importance of choosing a honest leader that will not corrupt the hive and country.

I think there will be some parents who will be reluctant to share this book with their children but if I had small children, I would.  I think it is good to start teaching children about democracy and how we can and have elected corrupt leaders.  ‘The Christmas Cats Flee the Bee’ does this in a fun way.  The rhyming prose and vibrant illustrations are excellent!  I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

I received the ebook version for my honest review.

Oink!  Book of Fun for Pig Lovers by Renee HollisOink! Book of Fun for Pig Lovers by Renee Hollis

Thanks to Nathan Thomas of Exisle Publishing, I am giving away one print copy of ‘Oink! A Book of Fun for Pig Lovers by Renee Hollis.

Description Oink! Book of Fun for Pig Lovers by Renee Hollis

Pigs rock! And more and more people — including superstars such as George Clooney and Miley Cyrus — have discovered all the delightful characteristics that make them such endearing pets. Pigs are smart, they can learn tricks, they’re actually incredibly clean, and they’re communicative, social animals.

Oink is a celebration of these wonderful creatures and the perfect gift for anyone who has ever fallen under a pig’s spell! Featuring memorable quotes from people such as Winston Churchill, George Bernard Shaw, John Howard, Shelley Duvall and A.A. Milne, each accompanied by a beautiful photograph, this is a book that’s guaranteed to make you smile.

My Thoughts Oink! Book of Fun for Pig Lovers by Renee Hollis

“Pigs are smart little creatures. They just need love.”- Shelley Duvall

When I was younger, I use to like to walk through the livestock exhibits to say hi to the animals.  I would try to get other kids who made fun of the large pigs, stop.  They would not, they would say things like “they are going to be dinner soon anyway.” Or “but they’re so fat!” Like it was the pigs fault they were over fed to fetch a larger price!  It still makes me furious and saddened to this day!

When Exisle Publishing reached out to me asking if I wanted a copy of ‘Oink” for review, I couldn’t say no. This book respects pigs as they should be respected!  Contrary to what so many people believe, pigs are quite intelligent and make wonderful pets, if you have the room.

I do wish the author would have cautioned readers about getting a pig as a pet.  For one thing, I have heard of many times that pigs have been passed off as pot belly pigs or full grown pig that go on to grow much larger than they were told they would grow.  Take Esther the wonder pig in Ontario, Canada.  She currently weighs about 650 pounds.  By the time her owners (dads) realized how big she was getting, they were already in love with her.  Instead of shirking responsibility, they did a crowd funding and raised funds to build a farm sanctuary, Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary.  They also went vegan!  They are always looking for donations and volunteers to keep the farm going so please consider, if you can.

If you love pigs (not pork) you will love ‘OINK’!  It is packed full of wonderful photos of pigs and quotes.  Being a vegan due to my love of animals, this book is precious to me!  This book would make an excellent gift for pig lovers! 5/5 stars.

Trek by Rand Bishop

Description TREK by Rand Bishop

2017, America was turning mean. Heartsick, Rand Bishop couldn’t sit idly by. His action plan, however, had friends and family questioning his sanity. At 67, on bad knees and arthritic feet, with minimal camping experience and zero knowledge of long distance hiking, Rand set out to walk 900-miles, from Southern California to the Central Oregon Coast.

How an aging pilgrim managed to survive a 90-day test of will and endurance is only a fraction of this inspiring tale. The newfound hope Rand gained by listening to and interacting with a thousand people from nearly every walk of life is the true heartbeat of the TREK story.

My Thoughts TREK by Rand Bishop

“Well, I said to myself, I can walk. I can play the guitar. And, I can sing. So, that’s what I’ll do.”

A fascinating account of Oregon singer, Rand Bishop’s walk up the West Coast of the United States and his quest for peace. After the 2016 election, Bishop found himself depressed and besieged by middle-of-the-night worries. He felt that America was backsliding into a culture of what he refers to as “meanness.” Bigotry, racism, homophobia and sexism were reigning supreme once again and the hopelessness that Bishop was experiencing threatened to overtake him. Until, one day, he had an idea.

He decided to walk the entire length of Highway 101 on the West Coast. The route goes for 1,500 miles and winds all the way from Southern California up through Oregon and Washington State. Bishop intended to walk the distance with his guitar and his nine-year-old beagle, Millie.

What started as a foolhardy dream became a pilgrimage, a journey to the center of what truly makes this country great and, for Bishop a long look at his own soul. Despite not being a seasoned writer (he is a song writer), Bishop did great work with the narrative of his journey and the lives of the people that he met along the way. Reading along, I felt almost like I was traveling right next to him, meeting people from all walks of life and hearing their stories.

Bishop’s story was inspiring, compelling, funny and sometimes heartbreaking. I couldn’t agree more with his decision for embarking on the trek in the first place. It’s so nice to read a memoir about peace and loving one another in this day and age and I really appreciated the overall message of the book. Rand Bishop’s book touched my heart in a way that I haven’t experienced in a long time and I know that it will stay with me forever. 5 out of 5 stars.

I received the ebook for my honest review.
