Christmas Cats Flee the Bee

The Christmas Cats Can’t Help When the Hive Elects a Bad Bee. The bees learn a valuable lesson about making important decisions without enough information. They also learn that everyone needs to work to earn the trust of others.

My Thoughts Christmas Cats Flee the Bee by Constance Corcoran Wilson

The Christmas Cats are at it again, trying to help others in need.  However, this time they may not be able to save the day for the bees and their queen.  It teaches children a bit about democracy and the importance of choosing a honest leader that will not corrupt the hive and country.

I think there will be some parents who will be reluctant to share this book with their children but if I had small children, I would.  I think it is good to start teaching children about democracy and how we can and have elected corrupt leaders.  ‘The Christmas Cats Flee the Bee’ does this in a fun way.  The rhyming prose and vibrant illustrations are excellent!  I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

I received the ebook version for my honest review.

Close Encounters Of The Furred Kind by Tom CoxClose Encounters Of The Furred Kind by Tom Cox

Thanks to Sarah Schoof of St. Martin’s Press, I am giving away one print copy of Close Encounters Of The Furred Kind by Tom Cox.

Description of Close Encounters Of The Furred Kind by Tom Cox

Have you ever moved house, over a distance of 350 miles, with four cats? If you haven’t, and are thinking about it, I’ll give you some advice: don’t.

If you really must move, try to get the cats to arrange their own transport. Focus on yourself instead. You’ll have plenty to think about as it is, and the cats will only get in the way with their sarcasm and hairballs. I moved from Norfolk to Devon with four cats and it felt like such an impossible ordeal, part of me believes that I actually died somewhere along the way and am now living in some kind of afterlife: very much like real life, but a little slower moving, and with slightly clearer air. “That’s just the West Country,” I’ve been told, but I can’t be 100% certain.

Praise for Close Encounters Of The Furred Kind by Tom Cox

“…a laugh-out-loud memoir…Cox is endlessly funny, speaking for his cats and poking good-natured fun at every human he counters, including himself.”–Booklist on Close Encounters of the Furred Kind

“As well as humor, this book is filled with poignant and reflective moments. Do yourself a favor and settle in for some armchair traveling across the pond this summer with this delightful book.”–Best Friends Magazine on Close Encounters of the Furred Kind

National Cat Day- Meet Meeka

AmandaI just found out that today was National Cat Day.  As many of you who have been following my website for awhile, you already know that my dear cat Amanda passed on just before the new year. I loved her dearly and still miss her so much.

I kept meaning to give you an update on our family status but have just been crazy Busy.

In May, I found out about a Snowshoe cat that was in a foster home needed a new home fast.  I wasn’t sure if I was ready for a new cat in our family yet.  I always worry when I lose a pet that I will put certain expectations on a new pet if I get one too soon.  However, Bill and I decided to meet the cat in need, Meeka.  Of course, it was love at first sight for me and we brought her home.

Luckily, like Amanda, Meeka loves to cuddle and sleeps with me every night all cuddles against me.  She has really filled that void.  She also like to give and receive kisses.  However, she is the most vocal cat I have ever known.  She is very good at communicating what she wants and when she is displeased.

When we adopted her back in May, she was a hefty 15 pounds.  The vet insisted that she Meeka and Suanneneeded to be on a diet and only be fed canned food.  The reason for canned food is the higher water content.  So, I put her on a diet right away.  She didn’t mind the canned food at all, she just wanted more of it and has made that abundantly clear, every single day. Despite her protests, she has lost 3 pounds to date.  Two more pounds to go.  After she lost the first two pound she has been a lot more active, running up and down the stairs and following me everywhere!  I mean EVERYWHERE!  She cries outside the door if I am in the bathroom.  LOL! The good thing though is that she is now getting exercise without even realizing it is part of her weight loss plan.

Meeka is about 6 years old. She is the first non-black cat I have had.
