Lucky Rabbits Foot

Description Lucky Rabbit’s Foot by Courtney Davis

These were only the beginning of Fawn Malero’s problems, but they coincided with a vampire wedding-of-the-century coming to town and that made them a top priority. And as Logan began to take on more duties as pack Alpha, her loyalties were being tested by everyone. Could she run part of the city and part of the pack?

Then the burglaries started… of human homes, threatening exposure!

Being pulled in so many directions, Fawn feared she was failing her father and the supernaturals of Seattle leaving them open for challengers to their authority. Will Fawn’s ability to enlist the help of other supernaturals be enough? Or will they finally see that she doesn’t have what it takes to keep Seattle safe and its supernaturals hidden?

Guest Review by BookGirl

I ate every bite of this book up like a delicious dessert! From page one of ‘Lucky Rabbit’s Foot (The Fawn Malero Mysteries Book 4)’ by Courtney Davis, I knew that it would be right up my alley. This novel has everything, romance, mystery and a supernatural detective who is trying her best to keep it all together—all with wit and heart that make it a rewarding read.

Fawn Malero is such a great main character, I found myself sympathizing with her right away, while also wondering how on earth she got herself into this crazy situation!

At the start of this book, Fawn is already in a pickle with the mysterious case of the rabbits that are attacking the city. Well, okay, “attacking” is a strong word. The rabbits are not actually doing anything, besides inadvertently causing the odd car accident. But there are thousands of them, and no one has any idea where they are coming from.

The city of Seattle was not prepared for this invasion of cute rodents, and they are even less prepared for the rash of unexplained weather that seems to be hitting the city. From heat waves to blizzards all happening in the span of a few short hours, it’s almost as if the city itself is going haywire to avoid the upcoming nuptials between two of the vampire world’s most prominent members.

At the center of all of this is Fawn Malero, private investigator for the supernatural community who is desperate to solve the city’s problems before the wedding takes place. Fawn must figure out who is behind the attacks on the city, and thus prove herself to her father, before things spiral even further out of control.

There are few things that I love more than a supernatural mystery, and this story definitely fit the bill! 5 out of 5 Stars!

 Murder for

Description Murder for Liar by Verlin Darrow

Award-winning novelist Verlin Darrow delivers a standout thrill ride in his newest mystery, Murder for Liar, an engaging, enlightening, and entertaining novel of psychological suspense.

About Murder for Liar:  Private investigator-turned-psychotherapist Tom Dashiel doesn’t know it yet, but he’s hurtling towards discovering where his threshold lies—the point of no return for his sanity.  So begins a surreal spiral when George Arundel enters Tom’s Santa Cruz office on a Tuesday afternoon in April.

To say George Arundel is a puzzle is an understatement:  the local psychiatrist who referred Arundel to Tom described him—rather astutely—as “a substantial challenge.”  Working to treat the enigmatic Arundel, Tom soon realizes he has been tasked to treat a client unlike any he’s ever encountered.

But how is George Arundel related to the uncanny coincidences Tom begins to encounter?  Are these mere coincidences…or something else?  Could a young woman named Zig-Zag really be an angel?  How could a dog—a rather cute one at that—reveal one of the most important clues? What’s the deal with that alluring, albeit mercurial, woman named Dizzy?  And what’s Arundel’s connection to the escalating spate of unsolved murders plaguing the typically calm but always colorful Santa Cruz community?

Swept up in a perilous world where nothing is as it seems, Tom struggles to make sense of the decidedly dangerous, downright deadly scheme in which he has somehow unwittingly become a key player. Tom is about to discover that in this treacherous reality, the truth is far, far stranger than fiction…but the real danger is not knowing which is which.

Verlin Darrow has crafted an exhilarating, briskly paced page turner with a to-die-for plot in his latest novel. An extraordinary read that is alternately dark and lighthearted, tragic and comic, wildly entertaining and highly enlightening, Murder for Liar is one of those books destined to stay with readers after the final page is turned.  Meticulously plotted, populated with a charismatic cast of unforgettable characters and bustling with twists and turns, Murder for Liar is a true standout.

Murder for Liar by Verlin Darrow: Review

Guest Review by Bookgirl

I absolutely flew through this book! Darrow’s prose is so lively and engaging that I found myself reading ‘Murder For Liar’ in it’s entirety, in one night. This was so excellent and the main character, Tom Dashiel stole my entire heart.

‘Murder for Liar’ revolves around Tom, a therapist living in California who specializes in tough cases. Tom has gotten pretty successful doing this, and enjoys his job, despite it’s difficulties.

That is, until he meets George Arundel. George has Dissociative Identity Disorder, and has several different personalities that present at different times. Tom knows that this illness most likely stems for George’s childhood, some neglect or abuse before the age of four that caused him to revert into himself and set up these other personalities to handle things in the outside world.

Even though George is reluctant to talk about himself very much, Tom begins to feel that he is getting inside of the other man’s head, but just as he begins to feel this, George admits something to Tom that changes his view of the sessions entirely.

George believes that Tom is an angel that has been reincarnated into human form, and that he has been sent to “wake” him, essentially informing him of his angelic fate. But can he possibly be telling the truth? Is Tom really an angel in human form? Or is this just the crazed ravings of a very deluded man?

Tom begins to ask himself this very question as the book goes on, and the answer is one that I don’t think many readers will expect (I know I didn’t!)

I’ve never read another book that had such an out of this world concept and executed it so rationally. Darrow is an incredibly talented writer, and I hope I get to read more from him sometime soon!

5 out of 5 Stars!

Guest Review by Lea

When you marry someone, you pledge to take them for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, but sometimes situations can arise that you did not, or could not foresee.

For some people, this situation is their partner coming out to the world as transgender.

Finding out what this transition means for your marriage can be difficult, but Elisabeth L. Morrissey is here to help, with her book, “It’s Not All About You, Living with a Transsexual Spouse or Partner.”

Elisabeth has been married to a transgender woman for twenty-five years, and she uses her knowledge of the trans community (and the laws surrounding it) to create a self-help book that aims to help people who find themselves going through the transition of a partner.

Whether you and your partner have been together for years, or are just starting out, I think this book would be helpful for you.

Elisabeth talks about dealing with discrimination at work, finding a marriage counselor or therapist, and medical issues that may arise during your spouse’s transition.

Elisabeth has a great talent for writing in a funny and relatable way. I typically do not read self-help books, but I found myself really interested in this one and unable to put it down from the beginning!

There are over eighteen very helpful sections of this book, each divided into the list of things that you will have to deal with over the course of your partner’s transition.

Ultimately, it is up to you and your spouse as to whether you two will continue to stay married, but this book can provide a lot of insight into the strange new world that you are facing.

Elisabeth is both a great writer and a great advice-giver. Her advice is excellent for yourself and your partner, if your partner has come out as transgender. I really enjoyed this entertaining and informative book! I give it 5/5 stars.
