SaltWonder Himalayan Salt Cave

SaltWonderOn Monday, February 22nd, I had the opportunity to try out SaltWonder, a man made Himalayan Salt Cave with YVR (Vancouver) Bloggers.  SaltWonder is in North Vancouver.

Salt caves are a very popular health  treatment in Europe and has just been starting up in North America a few years ago.  They are said to help with many ailments including “Chronic bronchitis, sinusitis,  breathlessness, chest tightness, cough (particularly at night or after exercise),  mucus plugs, wheezing, colds and respiratory allergies,  mucosal edema,  bronchitis, adenoids, rhinitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, pneumonia after acute stage,  bronchiectatic disease, respiratory infections, influenza, rhinosinusopathy, smoker’s cough (secondary smoke related symptoms), frequent acute disorders of respiratory tract,
multi chemical sensitivity syndrome,  allergies to industrial and household pollutants,  eczema, psoriasis, and neurodermatitis…”

I certainly can’t speak for all of these claims but I can speak about my experience.  There were 8 bloggers and we were escorted into the beautiful man made salt cave room by the owner, Nuca Stoica.  We all took a lounge chair and were instructed to just relax and not talk.  If you talk, you won’t breath in many of the salt particles in the air.

I picked a chair by the relaxing sound of a water feature.  After laying back, it did not take me long to get into a deep relaxation.  In fact, I think I dosed off to sleep for a short time.  Once the 45 minute treatment was over we all gathered around, still in the salt cave for a photo shoot and to talk about the experience.  I was sitting on the floor, piled with salt and a woman sitting next to me asked if she could use my leg as a pillow.  LOL!  That is how relaxed she was.

After the photo shoot and conversation, we were given a tour of the facility.  We got to sit in

Salt Nebulization Room

the salt nebulization room for a few minutes.  It is a room much smaller than the one we were in before and had a fine mist going in it.  It was quite pleasant.  We also saw a small room with a pile of salt called the Crystal Salt Bed.  In there, you lie directly on the salt for maximum exposure.

I was just getting over a cold when I went to SaltWonder and I do believe it aided me in getting rid of the stuffy nose I still had.  That night, I slept and breathed better than I had in days! I also met some wonderful bloggers.

I would like to thank Ricky of YVR Bloggers for setting this experience up for us and Nuca for inviting us.  I would definitely love to experience the power of salt again.

Be sure to check out the SaltWonder Website: https://www.saltwonder.ca/ to learn more and to book an appointment.  If you don’t live in the Vancouver area, be sure to Google “Salt Therapy” to see if there is a facility near you.

Natures Way Lemon Rosemary Coconut OilWhen I was offered the chance to review this coconut oil, I was excited.  You may be asking yourself, “what is so exciting about coconut oil?  “Aren’t they all the same”?  No, they are not the same, especially not this one.  This coconut oil happens to be liquid, not the solid stuff you normally see.  It also comes in 5 different flavors.  I received the lemon rosemary flavor.

When I received this product to try, I logged into Natures Way Website to try to find recipes to try with this coconut oil however, there were none for the lemon rosemary flavor. However, it said it was good on salads, so I tried that first. It’s a lot lighter of an oil than the traditional solid coconut oil and it was nice on salad with a bit of salt and pepper. It doesn’t have any of the coconut flavor that regular solid coconut has. I tried it on popcorn but thought it was just fair. I think one of the other flavors may be better for popcorn. I also used it to fry vegan chicken but found that it still needed real lemon juice and rosemary. The flavor was a bit too subtle for cooked things. I look forward to trying some of the other flavors!

Nature’s Way Coconut Oil is currently available in 5 flavors, Raspberry, Lemon Rosemary, Garlic, Jalapeno, and Sriracha.

I received one bottle for my honest review.

4/5

Review: Hippie Snacks Coconut Chips

Hippie Snacks Coconut BaconBill and I have been fans of Hippie Chips since they first came on the market a few years ago. Their Chocolate Cashew Cookies are so moist and fudge like! They melt in your mouth. I love snacking on their Original Coconut Chips and I also use them broken up on a vegan chocolate torte that I make.  They are sooooooooooo much better than that dried “fancy” coconut you get in the baking isle of the grocery store.  Actually, I can’t stand that stuff.

So, when I was offered a package of their new Coconut Chips Flavor, I couldn’t refuse.  I had the choice of their Coconut Bacon or Tamari and Cracked Pepper.  I chose the Coconut Bacon.

When I received it, the first thing I did was smell it.  It sure smelled like bacon!  Then I tasted it.  It has a very subtle bacon flavor.  I usually like to try product recipes as well for review purposes however, the bacon flavor is so subtle that I am sure it would get lost completely.

Would I buy it? Yes, I would but only to snack on, not to cook with. I also bought a bag of their Tamari and Cracked Pepper Flavor.  I just had to try those as well.

I give the Coconut Bacon flavor a 3.5/5 and the Tamari and Coconut Cracked Pepper flavor a 4/5.

I was sent one package of the Bacon flavor for my honest review.
