Lyall has only very recently found out that her parents are selkies, mythical creatures that are able to change into a seal at the drop of a hat by dawning a seal skin that belongs only to them.
After having spent her whole life thinking that she was a human, Lyall must now discover her future as not only a selkie, but the daughter of a banished prince of the Liath clan. Complicating matters is her need to speak with the Great Elder of the clan to discuss fixing her father’s damaged selkie skin so that he can transform for the first time in decades and heal his fatal illness.
Lyall realizes that she must join the migration of her clan (an event that occurs only once every 50 years) in order to find the Great Elder, but that she must do so without the approval of her parents.
Along the way she meets Ceannas, one of the clans strongest protectors, who intends to watch over her as she is royalty. Sparks fly between the pair almost immediately, and they will have to suppress all of their romantic urges and work together to save the life of Lyall’s father.
This book is obviously set in the same world as ‘Stealing the Selkie’s Heart,’ the first book in this series, but I was incredibly impressed by how different the characters were.
Rose has a knack for writing smart, kickass heroines and strong heroes, who aren’t overbearing. The interactions between Lyall and Ceannas made the book. Ceannas’ interest in her, despite him knowing that she was basically untouchable in the clan, created a really compelling sexual tension between the two of them.
I absolutely devoured this book, of course I give it five stars!
