Description 13 Billion To One by Randy Rush

A Riveting Story About Grit, Determination and the Refusal to Give In or Give Up — No Matter How Great the Odds.

As a welfare kid who grew up in the streets, Randy Rush had to fight for everything he got and knew what it was like to struggle. So, when he was suddenly handed $50 million in tax-free money, he vowed to use his new-found wealth to help others. But what he didn’t see coming was Jeremy Crawford.

In his gripping, adrenaline-packed memoir, Rush takes readers on his rocket-fueled journey after a trip to the corner grocer to buy food for his beloved cat, Conway Kitty, leads to the discovery that he has won Canada’s $50 million Lotto Max jackpot.

Soaring on a seemingly endless endorphin high, Rush spends the months following his win traveling, feeding his passion for rare sports cars, considering charitable causes, and splurging on friends — paying off their debts and even giving them a free place to stay in million-dollar homes. But his world comes crashing down when he discovers that Dave Crawford, a man he loved like an older brother and had generously provided for, has served him up to his con artist son, Jeremy — who scams Rush out of nearly $5 million.

Reeling from Dave’s betrayal and fueled by the discovery that the Crawfords are serial con artists who have devastated the lives of more than a hundred others, Rush embarks on a mission to take his adversaries down. But as his quest for justice drags on, his festering rage reaches a boiling point and he is faced with a choice: Let the Crawford’s cons destroy him, or re-focus his attention on doing good in the world and enjoying the enormous gift he has been given.

Interview With Randy Rush

TR: Please tell us something about ’13 Billion To One’ that is not in the summary.  (About the book, person in the book, topic, etc that you particularly enjoyed writing about)

RR: It was very therapeutic. The process that Ingrid and I took to write it made me think of memories I had long forgotten about. Revisiting old images and artifacts from my life along the way was hugely cathartic.

TR: How much time and effort went into your research for the ’13 Billion To One’?

RR: Good question. It’s my life story—but start to finish, it was a three-year process to write and publish.

TR: ’13 Billion To One’ is certainly a cautionary “tale” what do you hope the main take away for readers will be?

RR: HOPE. In capital letters. No matter your circumstances, there is hope.

TR: Where did you get the inspiration for your cover?

RR: The cover was a very long process and it went through many

Conway Kitty

incarnations before we settled on one. But the last five years since my win were a rocket ride. That’s always how I describe it, and that was the inspiration for the final cover we ended up with. And Conway Kitty, my 27-pound Maine Coon, is in the book and a huge part of my life—he was with me the whole way, so we had to include him on the cover too!

TR: What do you do when you are not writing?

RR: I’m always thinking about my next projects.

TR: Can you tell us about your challenges in getting your first book published?

RR: Well, I’m working with proven professionals and they sailed this ship before and their guidance has been excellent. It’s a long process—and the stay-at-home order has slowed everything down—but on the whole I feel very lucky to be able to continue on with my mission and get my memoir out there.

TR: What are you currently working on?

RR: The working title of our next project is “Axe to Grind,” the story of two grown sisters fighting abuse in the Church at the hands of the very people they were victims of as children. The book is due to be published in the spring of 2021.

TR: What book/s are you reading at present?

RR: 1. Eusebius of Caesarea (3rd century)

  1. The Complete Works of Flavius Josephus (1st century)

TR: Is there a question that you would have liked me or another blogger to ask but didn’t? Please ask and answer the question.

RR: Does anybody know where James Dean’s 1955 550 Spyder went to? Been missing since the early 60s.
