Description Reason for Concern: Mrs. B Mystery by Anita Kulina

Mrs. B is back on the case with a new mystery to solve!

People don’t vanish into thin air.  Yet no one has seen Alice since St. Mary’s Senior Center had their Supper Club outing on Sunday.  As Mrs. B learns more about her friend, the disappearance seems to involve a burglary, an emerald necklace and maybe even a motorcycle gang.

Where in heaven’s name is Alice?

Praise Question of Devotion: Mrs. B Mystery by Anita Kulina

“I found it captivating and funny how one elderly lady’s typical life changes from doing games at a senior center to investigating a crime.
The characters including Mrs. B are believable. For fans of The Murder She Wrote, Piriot, and Columbo, readers will love this book. I was engaged, entertained, and can’t wait for the next installment. Mrs. B is my new favorite lady detective. Smart, brave, and funny. Overall, I recommend A Question of Devotion to all.”-Danielle Urban of Urban Book Reviews

“This is a wonderful cozy mystery. Mrs. B is a sweet little old lady that knows everyone and everyone knows her. Most people might not think of her as a detective but that is not going to stop her search for the truth. I loved reading about her bumbling around on the internet. But I loved the interaction between her and Kelly.
If you like cozy mysteries look no further. This one has a great story and some hair raising events. I will be looking forward to other books in this series.”-Jessica Bronder of J Bronder Book Reviews

“I adored A Question of Devotion and Mrs. B. It’s my goal to be Mrs. B when I “grow up. The mystery in A Question of Devotion is shockingly not a murder! However, it was a nice change to have a mystery that involved a robbery rather than your typical cozy mystery book murder. Mrs. B gets involved because the man accused of the crime is her good friend’s son. With some quick deduction, Mrs. B is able to help her friend. Along the way, you’ll meet some interesting characters at the senior center, and you’ll feel like you’re part of the story through the way the author describes this neighborhood. I definitely recommend A Question of Devotion to all of you cozy mystery fans! This one’s a keeper. I can’t wait for more Mrs. B.”-Christy of Christy’s Cozy Corners

“You know the warm glow you get from drinking a cup of hot tea or coffee? This book will warm your insides in the same way. For those of you who love frogs as much as I do, how about the pleasure you get from listening to the spring peepers at the beginning of each spring? Reading this book gives one the same feeling. Hmm. Is there such a thing as a warm, comforting mystery? If so, this one definitely falls into that category.”-Lisa of Lisa’s Writopia

Interview with Anita Kulina, Author of ‘Reason For Concern

TR: Mrs. B fell into being an amateur detective but does she enjoy it?  Is there something else she would rather be doing?

AK: Good question, Teddy.  Mrs. B had a quiet life until all these mysteries started popping up.

The most important thing in Mrs. B’s life is the people she loves – her daughter Helen, her missing son Leo, her little neighbor Kelly, and her friends at St. Mary’s Senior Center.  Every time Mrs. B gets involved in a mystery, it’s because she wants to help someone else.  So to her, it’s worth every minute.

One of the things I love about Mrs. B is that she still always seems to find time to read a book on her porch, watch a favorite movie star on the classic movie channel, or take a little nap.

TR: Where did you get the inspiration for your cover?

AK: That beautiful car!  When I realized that Anne had her grandson’s 1968 Mustang in her garage, I knew it wouldn’t stay there.  The image of Mrs. B and her friend cruising around in that old car wouldn’t let me go, and I was fortunate to have a friend refer me to Marci Evancho Mason.  Marci is an amazing watercolor artist who knew exactly how to use my vision to bring Mrs. B’s latest adventure to life.

TR: How long did it take you to write this book from concept to fruition?

AK: The first draft took about a year.  Then another year to edit.  Then the extra time it took to get feedback from my beta readers.  I recently retired from Carnegie Mellon University so I’m hoping that means the next book won’t take quite so long!

TR: What draws you to the cozy mystery genre?

AK: Cozy mysteries seem to have two things in common, and I love both of them.  One, I care what happens to the characters.  They become real to me.  Two, the location of a cozy mystery is almost like an additional character.  I feel like I know Miss Marple’s St. Mary Mead, Jessica Fletcher’s Cabot Cove, and Hamish Macbeth’s Lochdubh so well – almost as if I have walked on their streets and visited the village shops.

TR: What was the first major news story you remember as a child?

AK: I remember sitting on the floor in our living room when my parents were reading the newspaper and talking about Alaska and Hawaii becoming states.  I was young enough that I was mostly fascinated with the fact that the U.S. flag would now have two additional stars.  Since the 48 stars were all in neat rows, everyone was wondering where the extra two stars would go.

TR: When did you first have a desire to write?  How did this desire manifest itself?

AK: Gosh, I guess I was around 9.  We had to write a poem for school, and after that I was hooked.  My first publication was a letter to the editor in my favorite comic book.

TR: What are you currently working on?

AK: The next Mrs. B adventure.  I have a folder full of plot ideas, and right now I’m deciding which to choose next!
