“Freaking Amazing! This books was such a wild ride from page one. So many twists and turns that you just can’t figure out what the hell is going to happen next! It was so hard to put down and very, very well written. I am very picky with the books I read, I know I say that a lot, but it’s true. This book met every single one of my expectations and then some.
With the characters, you either really felt for them, or you held seething hatred for them. It was like the main characters couldn’t seem to catch a break and the villains of the story kept getting a leg up. It was driving me crazy! I was found yelling at my kindle, cursing, clenching my fists, all because this story was so easy to get into! In fact, it was hard NOT to!
This is not a happy story, by any means. There is so much death and destruction and it’s written in great detail. So if you get wigged out easily, this might not be the book for you. Interview Isle of Savages by T. Briar
TR: Please tell us something about the book that is not in the summary. (About the book, character you particularly enjoyed writing etc.)
TB: I loved writing the scenes involving the sharks, particularly the one in which Eric, Mia, and Keri must go down into the sunken yacht to retrieve food and water because they have discovered that they are stranded on an island with sub-human cannibals and can’t risk going inland. When that shark starts down the hallway of the yacht toward them and they only have a butcher knife to ward it off…well, let’s just say that my heart was pumping hard as I laid the words down on the page.
TR: What is your favorite scene in the book? Why?
TB: When Mia tells Keri she’s going to go inland to rescue Eric after he gets captured by the cannibals. I mean, the two girls can literally see the ship on the horizon that’s blasting its fog horn to let them know that they’re getting rescued but Mia still feels compelled to go risk her life to save Eric. As the writer of this tale, when she dives out of the life raft that was the moment I wanted to jump up and let out a triumphant cheer.
TR: Tell us about your cover. Did you design it yourself?
TB: Nope. Eerily Fairy Design gets all the credit. As it happens sometimes for writers, after I sent in my cover request the designer gave me four mock covers to choose from. None was what I’d requested since I’m terrible at thinking up appropriate covers and had only asked for a sinister looking island. However, I immediately fell in love with the black skull on the green jungle background.
TR: How long did it take you to complete?
TB: The best I can remember it was about 4 months from the time I wrote the first sentence until I wrote the very last sentence. This one just poured from my fingertips. I was spending six to eight hours a day working on it exclusively. And when I wasn’t working on it, I was thinking about it. It was sort of an obsessive thing for me at the time. I think that may have stemmed from my knowing I had an awesome story to tell.
TR: Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from ‘Isle of Savages’?
TB: Ah…if I could only be so lucky to one day see it turned into a movie. But to answer your question, I have absolutely no idea. Not even an inkling.
TR: How completely do you develop your characters before beginning to write?
TB: To tell the honest truth, I’m just not a traditional plotter nor character developer before I start writing. As it always happens, I first saw the opening scene in my mind’s eye. Eric (one of the main characters) was lying face down in the wave wash. I thought he was dead until his eyes flickered open. The story continued from there.
Also, odd as this may sound, I make only the briefest of notes about the characters or the story until I’m about halfway through writing the story. At that point I’ll do a handwritten character and chapter description for each character and chapter up to the point I’m at in the middle of the book. That’s as far as I’ve ever gotten with notes. To this day I’ve never completed any chapter or character description for any book that I’ve written until I’m completely finished with the book and getting it ready to send out. Somehow, I just keep it all straight in my mind. Maybe that’s because I’ve been doing this for so long.
TR: What book/s are you reading at present?
TB: Lee Child’s Jack Reacher: No Middle Name (for a second time). Also, a book of short stories titled The Most Dangerous Game and Other Stories of Adventure. I read the latter at least once a year because the stories inside helped lay the foundation for the action adventure suspense thriller genre as we know it today. And yes, I think those stories still stand up against anything written today.
TR: Where do you get the names for your characters?
TB: Once I see the characters in my mind’s eye, their names just sort of come to me. Never have any trouble naming my characters.
TR: Describe the room you are sitting in as though it was a scene in one of your books.
TB: A man sits at a desk in a small room that consists of only four walls, a curtained window and a closed door. A clutter of papers and reference books litter the desktop around the glow of a laptop as the man types away. The walls are undecorated except for a lone clock because no distractions are allowed inside the room. It’s a comforting place that allows the man to let his imagination soar.
TR: I know you also write flash fiction, can you share a short one with us?
TB: Don’t have a really short one because I’m such a descriptive writer. But you should get the chance to read two of my original, never before published, 1000 word action suspense shorties on this tour.
TR: Is there a question that you would have liked me or another blogger to ask but didn’t?
TB: Can’t really think of any. Thanks for having me over!

Briar spent his formative years in the treacherous worlds of The Savage Sword of Conan, The Warlord, and Jonah Hex comics. So he’s been fascinated with action adventure stories for most of his life. From there, he eventually discovered Jack London, Louis L’amour and Jack Higgins. These days he’s devouring thriller novels by James Rollins, Clive Cussler and a host of other adventure writers.
