My Grandfather's Pants

Jack Laskin is an ordinary man. More than ordinary according to some. Running the family hardware store and a life that would bore a snail, nothing exciting ever seems to happen to him.

Then, at his mother’s urging, he tries on a pair of his late grandfather’s old pants and everything changes — most importantly his emerging love life. It’s not long before his mother and her meddling friends get involved.

When an old friend of his grandfather’s tells Jack he has something she wants, his new-found life takes another turn. Having no idea what he is supposed to have, Jack looks to his girlfriend, Connie, and her brother, Robert, for help.

In the end, the answers will all be found in his Grandfather’s Pants.

Praise for My Grandfather’s Pants by Tegon Maus

“This story is fantastic! It is totally different to anything I have read before. As the storyline unfolds, it is sexy, humorous and very entertaining – absolutely brilliant!”- Susan Keefe, Book Reviews By Susan Keefe, Author

“I was definitely not expecting to laugh as often as I did while reading My Grandfather’s Pants. Mr. Maus has a fantastic sense of humour that translates extremely well to the written word. He is adept at teasing out the funny side of even the most serious or mundane parts of daily life. It was especially entertaining to see how he plays around with a wide range of assumptions most of us make about certain groups of people in order to keep his readers on their toes.
My Grandfather’s Pants is a great choice for anyone in the mood for something quirky and original. This is the kind of book that begs to be read more than once. I, for one, will be revisiting it quite soon!”- LAS Reviewer, Long and Short Reviews

“My Grandfather’s Pants is a funny and surprising novel. An enjoyable combination of fantasy and suspense with a touch of romance. The protagonist, Jack is a likeable old soul thrown into a bizarre situation, and the way he handles the bizarre challenges he faces will keep you guessing . . . and laughing. Pick up this book if you want to take a ride on a saucy, madcap rollercoaster. You won’t be disappointed!”- Joseph N. Sidari, Amazon Reviewer

Interview with Tegon Maus, Author of My Grandfather’s Pants

TR: Where do you get the names for your characters?

TM: Depending on what I write, I want my characters to reflect the personality I’m trying to convey.   Names are important…  I can’t have a bad guy doing terrible things with a name like Percy !    I have a book… much like a phone book that I find names that most match how I want my readers to see my characters.

TR: Are any of your characters in ‘My Grandfather’s Pants’ based on real-life friends or acquaintances?

TM: Many of the people I know are in all my books…  not their names mind you but most certainly the way they behave.  People are very interesting in what they say compared to how they behave… everyone has a little something that doesn’t follow the line.  For me, that makes them very interesting !

TR: Tell us about your cover. Did you design it yourself?

TM: In a manner of speaking…  my publisher asks for what I think it should look like… what colors I like, any symbols I don’t want on the cover,  do I want people or  graphics… things like that and then the company designer takes that info and turns it into a cover. By its self…  My Grandfather’s Pants appears to be a plain cover but after you read it,  it becomes the perfect cover !

TR: What is your favorite scene in ‘My Grandfather’s Pants’? Why?

TM: I have several that are an important part of my life sprinkled throughout all my books. I may have turned them just a little to keep them personal  but I would have to say at the end of this book my hero asks his girl to marry him… it is the EXACT scene… the EXACT  words… exact way it happened when I asked my wife to marry me.   Every word true in every detail !

TR: Imagine you have entered the ‘Twilight Zone’, Would a writer purposely commit suicide in hopes her book would then become famous?

TM: To what end ?  She would never know what people thought… whether they like it or hated it. There would be no upside, no money, no fame, no adulation, no twits saying what she wrote changed their life.  Why it would be crazy to think killing yourself would give your book more attention than any other…  wait a minute…  I’ll have to think about this.

TR: What are you currently working on?

TM: At present I almost finished with Book 2 of the Littlefield series. I also have a few chapters of Book 3 as well.  In addition I’m tinkering with Book 2 for BOB and only have 8 or 9 thousand words left for book 3 of the Eve Series.  I also have an Audio copy of  BOB  coming in early November!

TR: Wow, an audio book of ‘Bob’ will be a special treat!  I am looking forward to all of the sequels as well! Thanks so much for being my guest today, Tegon!

About Tegon MausMy Grandfathers Pants by Tegon Maus

Tegon Maus was raised pretty much the same as everyone else… devoted mother, strict father and all the imaginary friends he could conjure. Not that he wasn’t friendly, he just wasn’t “people orientated”. Maybe he lived in his head way more than he should have, maybe not. He liked machines more than people, at least he did until I met his wife.

The first thing he can remember writing was for her. For the life of him he can’t remember what it was about… something about dust bunnies under the bed and monsters in my closet. It must have been pretty good because she married him shortly after that. He spent a good number  of years chasing other dreams before he got back to writing.

It wasn’t a deliberate conscious thought, it was more of a stepping stone. His wife and himself had joined a dream interpret group and we were encouraged to write down our dreams as they occurred. “Be as detailed as you can,” we were told.

He was thrilled. If there is one thing he enjoys it’s making people believe him and he likes to exaggerate. Not a big exaggeration or an outright lie mind you, just a little step out of sync, just enough so you couldn’t be sure if it were true or not.  When he writes, he always write with the effort of “it could happen” very much in mind and nothing, he guarantees you, nothing, makes him happier.

He has consistently placed in the top 3 in 189 writing contest in a variety of genres and has been featured in magazines a couple of times to raise money for Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Description of Still Mine by Amy Stuart

What happens if you vanish from your life and leave no story behind?

Someone will make one up for you.

Clare is on the run.

From her past, from her ex, and from her own secrets. When she turns up alone in the remote mining town of Blackmore asking about Shayna Fowles, the local girl who disappeared, everyone wants to know who Clare really is and what she’s hiding. As it turns out, she’s hiding a lot, including what ties her to Shayna in the first place. But everyone in this place is hiding something from Jared, Shayna’s golden-haired ex-husband, to Charlie, the charming small-town drug pusher, to Derek, Shayna’s overly involved family doctor, to Louise and Wilfred, her distraught parents.

Did Shayna flee? Was she killed? Is it possible she’s still alive?

As Clare uncovers the mysteries around Shayna’s disappearance, she must confront her own demons, moving us deeper and deeper into the labyrinth of lies and making us question what it is she’s really running from. Twisting and electrifying, this is a get-under-your-skin thriller that will make you question what it means to lose yourself and find yourself in the most unlikely places.

Praise for Still Mine by Amy Stuart

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY: “[A] dark and deliciously disturbing debut…Stuart’s perceptive look at addiction, abuse, and obsession will resonate with fans of psychological thrillers.

RT BOOK REVIEWS: “The cliffhanger will have you continuing to bite your nails until there’s a sequel.”

TORONTO STAR: “[The plot] takes hold of you and drags you through the story at breakneck speed. The characters are compelling, the setting chilling and the suspense ever-present. Add to that, Stuart has an ability to tap into the dark psychology behind addiction and abuse, and to bring these complex struggles to life in a way that stays with you for days.”

GLOBE AND MAIL: “An impressive debut, rooted in character rather than trope, in fundamental understanding rather than rote puzzle-solving.”

Born and raised in Latvia, Rebecca Balodis marries Rhys Sudduth, an English diplomat. Shortly thereafter, he is summoned home to attend his father’s deathbed. Rebecca cannot accompany him at the time and becomes trapped in the turmoil plaguing her country. He is informed she died in the upheaval.

Nearly four years later, Rebecca escapes and arrives in London with their son in tow. Arriving in the middle of his sister’s ball proves awkward, especially since Rhys plans to announce his betrothal to a young debutante later in the evening.

Can this pair ever find or even recognize an enduring love?

Excerpt of ‘An Enduring Love’ by Wareeze Woodson

A liveried butler, stern of countenance and standing stiffly erect opened the door. “Your invitation, Ma’am.”

Rebecca trembled, but forced out, “Surely, I don’t need an invitation. Please inform Lord Rhys that his wife is here.”

Astonishment flashed across the butler’s face before he bowed his head and nodded for her to follow him. Sonja was seated in the hall while he led Rebecca to a small parlor papered with stripes of ivory and cream. The entire room seemed a little intimidating, with an elaborate sofa covered with gold brocade sitting before a wide window. Chairs were shattered about the room as well, but the beauty of the room did little to sooth her nerves. She glanced at the low table in front of the sofa then let her gaze shift to the fireplace, glowing with warmth. The softly burning coals added soothing comfort to the room and with that, her whole body relaxed.

After the butler exited, Rebecca quickly knelt down to straighten Johnnie’s apparel. “We want to look our best mans maz cilveku, my little man. You must learn English better now we are home. They are not expecting us, but no matter. Your father will love you.”

The door opened and Rhys stood on the threshold with a scowl of impatience on his face, speaking to the butler over his shoulder. “Some strumpet masquerading as my deceased wife. Be damned. You’re positive she said, my wife. Not a long lost relative wanting to sponge…?”

Rebecca jumped to her feet, took Johnnie by the hand and pasted a trembling smile on her lips. “Rhys.”

About Wareeze Woodson

03_Wareeze Woodson

I write historical romance fiction novels set in the 1800s forward with a twist of suspense. All of my characters and stories that are portrayed in my books are fictitious. I am a native of Texas, but I have traveled through out America and beyond. As a dreamer, I love to visit new places where I can imagine a heroine meeting a hero in a special way. I’m an avid reader of (all sorts) and I love to write.

I married my high school sweat-heart and after having raised three sons plus one daughter, our love for each other remains unshaken. Now we enjoy our eight grandchildren. We can send them home, but we’re always happy for their return.

Outside of my family activities, I sing with the Silver Belles at my church and hate to miss even one practice. The local chapter of RWA is also at the top of my list of pleasures. It keeps me grounded with craft and connected with other writers.

Most of all, I enjoy going fishing with my husband. Give me a pole and leave me alone to bask in the sun, listening to water gurgle along the riverbanks while allowing my mind to float away to some distance place. Ah! Perfect.
