 Medellin Acapulco Cold

Description Medellin: Acapulco Cold ( Rick Fontain 3) by Bill Fortin

In March 1987, the CIA’s Operation Acapulco Cold took on the Medellín cartel. The journey would be dangerous. The alternative for not recovering the nuke would be too horrible to imagine.

A theft occurs as a result of President Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev’s treaty agreement in January 1986. Russian SS-20 medium-range missiles were removed from Eastern Europe and their nuclear MIRV packages removed. A shadow group inside the failing Russian government steals three of the nose-cone assembles.

A Russian named Geonov is charged with selling one of these devices to the Medellin cartel. The asking price was $40 million dollars in cash. Pablo Escobar did not even blink when he was offered one.  Operation Acapulco Cold is the detailed action taken by the CIA to address this life-altering situation.

Guest Review Medellin: Acapulco Cold (Rick Fontain 3) by Bill Fortin

Guest Review by Mark S.

‘Medellin: Acapulco Cold’ is the third book in Bill Fortin’s gripping series about CIA agent Rick Fontain. This installment in the series follows Rick as he tries to track down a stolen nuclear warhead through the United States, Mexico, Russia, Malaysia and other countries all over the world. This case ends up being one of the most complex and life-threatening of Rick’s career. Fortin’s writing seems to get better and better with every new novel that he releases. This book was no exception in that regard.

In ‘Medellin,’ Fortin’s writing is descriptive, compelling, snappy and witty. I found myself alternatively biting my nails and laughing out loud at Fontain’s quick one-liners many times while I was reading this novel. There were no parts of this book that dragged or bored me. It kept up a tense, action-packed plot throughout its entirety and kept me guessing about what was going to happen next till the very last page. These stories remind me a bit of a mixture of the James Bond films and ‘Die Hard’ with some Alex Cross thrown in for good measure. I love the descriptions of CIA operations and technology. All of those details seemed genuine and added to the story quite a bit. I didn’t feel lost or like I couldn’t understand what was happening at all.

I don’t want to give too much away and spoil the entire plot because it was too awesome a read for that. This was just the kind of thriller I love, the kind that has equal doses of tension and comedy as well as an international setting. I’m hoping that Rick Fontain has more work to do in the future and that there will be more books coming out in this series. This one gets 5 stars from me!

Across the River by Richard SnodgrassAcross the River by Richard Snodgrass

Thanks to Christina Torres of Meryl Moss Media, I am giving away one print copy of ‘Across the River’ by Richard Snodgrass.

Description Across the River by Richard Snodgrass

In the summer of 1863, Judson Walker, a captain of Morgan’s Raiders, and Jonathan Reid, a young engineer, come to Furnass to appropriate two of Colin Lyles’ steam-powered road engines. The purpose is to outfit the engines with iron plate and the newly developed Gatlin Guns, and, with Morgan, deliver the war engines to General Lee’s army in Central Pennsylvania. Amid Walker’s growing involvement with Lyle’s wife Libby, deserting soldiers, and Reid’s own agenda, Walker learns Morgan isn’t coming. The novel reaches its climax with Lyle trying to sabotage the war engines. Walker must decide between Libby and duty toward his men, the war and individual human values.

The Books of Furnass tell the story of a fictitious mill town, ten miles from Pittsburgh in southwestern Pennsylvania. At the heart of the series is the Furnass Towers Trilogy, about the efforts of men and women to maintain their lives, and the life of the town, in the face of the mill closings. In addition to contemporary life, the series chronicles the town when it was just an outpost after the French and Indian War…the town as it grew around an iron furnace in the wilderness…as it became an industrial center from the time of the American Civil War to the Vietnam War. And the series tells the story of the Lyle family, who were involved with the town from its founding to its struggles to survive after the mills went away.

Praise Across the River by Richard Snodgrass

The writing is beautiful. The complex characters, faced daily with choices between their deepest desires and their integrity, in the midst of war, make compelling reading. This book stands alone, while stoking the desire for rest of the books in the series. — IndieReader

The author’s impressive achievement is to upend the simplistic interpretation of the Civil War: two sides warring against each other out of perfectly confident and implacable hate. A thoughtful and powerfully written war novel. — Kirkus Reviews

Snodgrass shows himself to be a master storyteller and creates scenes so tangibly you can almost smell the leather of the saddles. This isn’t an action-heavy plot, but it doesn’t need to be. The suspense that builds up about these characters’ true identity, and intentions, builds steadily from the very first pages and rarely lets up, pushing boundaries of loyalty, love, country, and humanity. —Self-Publishing Review

An Ice Age Story of Love Lifeand SurvivalMoctu and the Mammoth People: An Ice Age Story of Love, Life and Survival by Neil Bockoven

Thanks to Waldorf Publishing, I am giving away one print copy of ‘Moctu and the Mammoth People’ by Neil Bockoven.

Description Moctu and the Mammoth People: An Ice Age Story of Love, Life and Survival by Neil Bockoven

Moctu and the Mammoth People is a compelling, well-researched story of a strong, young, dark-skinned Cro-Magnon boy who must fight his rival for leadership of his tribe and the right to mate the beautiful Nuri. Additionally, Moctu has confrontations with the “Pale Ones”, a fierce group of Neanderthals also called the People Eaters, as the two cultures interact in Paleolithic Italy 45,000 years ago.

Besides having dangerous encounters with mammoths, wolves, and saber-tooth tigers, Moctu has to deal with his older rival, Jabil, who fights and undermines him at every opportunity. After Jabil murders several elders who go against him, he deftly shifts blame onto the Pale Ones. He takes over as the tribe’s leader and makes Moctu’s life miserable. On a hunting trip, Moctu is captured and enslaved by the Pale Ones.

While with them, Moctu is shocked to discover that, although these primitive people know little about spear-throwers or making clothes, they can make fire, and he learns the skill. He meets the blond and fair-skinned Effie and over time, he recognizes that his hate for the Pale Ones was misplaced. Realizing that Nuri by now has been mated to Jabil, Moctu falls in love with Effie and has a child. But when he uncovers evidence that Jabil murdered his tribesmen, Moctu knows he must return home and mount a challenge.

In the interim, Nuri has had to deal with emotional and physical adversities including coming of age and being mated to a man she despises. When Moctu returns, can he overcome Jabil? How will Nuri react? The interspecies conflict may also get Moctu or Effie killed.
