Love That Moves the Sun by Linda CardilloLove That Moves the Sun by Linda Cardillo

Thanks to Meghan Brophy of JKS Communications, I am giving away one print copy of ‘Love That Moves the Sun’ by Linda Cardillo.

Description Love That Moves the Sun by Linda Cardillo

The brilliant poet, Vittoria Colonna, whose longing is buried beneath her grief, ignites the spirit of the artist Michelangelo and challenges him with both the profound terror and fierce beauty of love.

To her father, the warrior Fabrizio Colonna, she was the daughter whose marriage sealed a political alliance.  To Costanza D’Avalos, Duchess of Francavilla, she was the young girl Costanza educated to be a woman molded after herself–independent, curious and passionate.  To her husband, Ferrante D’Avalos, she was the woman who adored him and whom he betrayed.

To the literary aristocracy in Italy, she was the most accomplished and most famous poet of her age.  To four popes and the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, she was a voice of wisdom and influence to whom they turned in times of conflict.  To the community of reformers within the Church, she was a powerful force–and the only woman–giving voice to their fervent message.

To the Italian Inquisition, she was a suspected heretic. But to Michelangelo, she was the only woman he ever loved.

Praise Love That Moves the Sun by Linda Cardillo

“A stirring and emotionally resonant portrait of a pivotal relationship in the life of Michelangelo.” –Kirkus Reviews

“Cardillo gives us an intimate, rich, engrossing glimpse into the life of one of the most celebrated poets of the Renaissance and her extraordinary relationship with Michelangelo. Anyone who loves being immersed in historical detail that’s woven organically into a seamless narrative will love this beautifully researched and written novel.” – Susanne Dunlap, author of Émilie’s Voice and Liszt’s Kiss

“An extraordinary novel about an extraordinary woman. Vittoria Colonna, a noblewoman and renowned poet in sixteenth-century Italy, counted among her friends popes, cardinals and nuns, military leaders and scholars, and most significantly, Michelangelo. In this exquisite novel, Linda Cardillo brings the world of Renaissance Italy and this brilliant, heroic woman magnificently to life. Brimming with action and passion, Love That Moves the Sun grabbed hold of me and never let go.” – Judith Arnold, USA Today bestselling author

The Lost Mata Hari Ring

The sequel to The Christmas Eve Letter!

When husband and wife, Eve and Patrick Gantly, discover a shocking secret from Patrick’s past, they make the difficult decision to use the old lantern once again to return to 1885. They hope to save his child from a tragic future.

Although they try to plan for every possible contingency, something goes wrong.  They lose each other and end up in a different time!  Nothing goes as planned.  They struggle to save Patrick’s daughter from certain death, even as they search for the lost lantern that will return them to their own time.

My Thoughts Christmas Eve Letter: Time Travel Novel by Elyse Douglas

Another delightful read from husband and wife author team, Elyse Douglas!  As always, the characters jump off the page and pull you in.  Poor Eve, she had so much trouble finding her husband, Patrick.  They each landed in a different place while time traveling.  I loved the dynamic between Eve and Irene Casterbury in 1914.  Irene is such a spitfire for that time period.  Real women from history like her helped pave the way for today’s women!  We owe them many thanks!

I liked the idea of the lantern as the portal for time travel and how imperfect it was.  The writing is so fresh and pulls the reader in after just a few pages.  Elyse Douglas captures the sense of time and places in a way that make you feel as if you were there.  I think fans of ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’ by Audrey Niffenegger would love ‘The Christmas Eve Daughter’!

Do you want to know if Patrick and Eve found each other again and if they were able to save Patrick’s daughter, born in 1885?  Since I don’t give spoilers, you will have to read the book.  I highly recommend it!  It is book two of ‘The Christmas Letter’ series but can be easily read on its own.  I enjoyed it so much that I do plan to read the first book.

221 BC

Description 221 BC: Scroll 1 of Narmer War by Kendall Price and Laura Vosika

Set against the backdrop of the Ptolemaic Kingdom, an alternate history unfolds, linking the power of the pharaohs to magic. Brother is pitted against brother in a race to find twelve amulets, lost with the ancient pharaoh, and unlock their powers. Whoever holds the amulets holds that power; to save the world…or destroy it.

My Thoughts 221 BC: Scroll 1 of Narmer War by Kendall Price and Laura Vosika

King Ptolemy IV, Macedonian ruler of Egypt mentor and good friend, Qibo is dead.  The king calls on his trusted team to get to the bottom of why Qibo was so brutally murdered. It is immediately suspected that it has something to do with the ancient tablets that he had been painstakingly transcribing.  The tablets are believed to hold secrets to unlocking magical powers of 12 amulets.  They don’t want these magical powers to get in the wrong hands as they may be able to take control of the kingdom.

I found the ancient history fascinating.  It is quite apparent that the authors did a lot of research.  The characters were well thought out and came to life for me.  Though there were a couple parts that dragged a bit, I found ‘221 B.C.’ very engaging and hard to put down.  I felt as if I were watching a movie rather than reading a book.  I also liked the occasional romance to break up the heavier parts of war and exciting twists.  The novel is categorized in part, for young adults however, I think it may be a bit to dense for most in that age group.

If you enjoy historical mystery, especially from ancient times, I highly recommend ‘221 B.C.’  This is book one of a new series and I can hardly wait for book 2!  Now that the numerous cast of characters have been introduced, I think book 2 will have even better flow and it will be getting to know some of the characters better.  I also hope that someone buys the rights to make a movie!  I really think it would play well on the big screen.
