Digby s Hollywood Story is a novella set in Hollywood in the years 1946-1949. The eponymous Digby is a cop on a movie-studio security force dealing with, among others, an aspiring actress who is unreliable in her affections, a clever screenwriter and an action star who is also a cross-dresser. But the book isn’t really about any of these people. It is, rather, an attempt to explore, and experiment with, the difference between what really happens and the stories we tell.
About Thomas Fuchs
Thomas Fuchs, born in Los Angeles, and with a screenwriter father, grew up watching movie projects develop from ideas to finished films. His own career spans fiction and non-fiction in both print and on the screen. He served as Director of Research for a large documentary film company (Wolper Productions), then moved on to the writing and producing of documentaries and what is sometimes described as fact-based entertainment. His credits include years of staff writing for shows like You Asked For It and Ripley’s Believe It or Not, as well as multiple episodes of shows for A&E and The History Channel.
His non-fiction print work includes A Concise Biography of Adolf Hitler (Berkley/Putnam Penguin, 2000). More recently, he has turned to the writing of fiction, with stories appearing in a variety of magazines (e.g. Fiction International, Rosebud, J Journal, Harrington Gay Men’s Literary Quarterly), and anthologies (e.g. The Big Book of Bizarro, Queer Fish.)
