I decided to make this a year long challenge this time. My hope is that it will help us better manage are ARC’s.
Here are the rules:
1. To sign up, leave a comment and a direct link to your blog post about this challenge that includes your list from rule #2.
2. List all of the ARC’s that you have to read right now. Then throughout the year, you must continue updating that list as you receive more ARC’s. (This is important). You should also strike out the ones that you finish.
3. a. All of us who have or will have more than 12 ARC’s must read and review 12.
b. All of us who have or will have less than 12 ARC’s must read all of the ARC’s we have. Note, that if you have 11 ARC’s and then receive a 12th one you will be bumped up to catagory a.
4. You don’t have to make a list of which ARC’s you plan to read, but you can if you want.
5. Crossovers with other challenges are allowed and Audio-books are allowed as long as they are ARC’s.
6. Read the books and review them on your blog. If you don’t have a blog, you can post your review on sites like Powells, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc. Leave a comment on this post with a link to each of your reviews.
7. Please subscribe to my blog, as I will be posting updates to the challenge periodically.
8. Enjoy!
Up-Date:
Here is level 2 of the challenge. For those of you who have or will finish 12 books, read another 12 books for a total of 24 books.
Level 3 of the challenge is for the ARC Obsessed and is over 25 books.
Note of clarification:I guess I use the term ARC loosely. I consider anything sent from a publisher or author as an ARC because they are sent to us with the expectation that we will review them.
Copyright 2007-2010: All the posts within this blog were originally posted by Teddy Rose and should not be reproduced without express written permission.
Do these have to be ARCs (like marked on the book) or books sent to us to reviewed. If so, I don’t think there is an audio ARC. Audios are published after the hardcovers or so I’ve been told.
I should be backing off ARC’s but have a horrible addiction! Enjoy the Obama pic!
J Kaye,
They don’t have to say ARC. I consider anything sent from a publisher or author for you to review, an ARC. I was just sent an audiobook from Hatchette to review, so it would count. Also, sometimes on Shelf Awareness, the ARC’s or Galley’s I am sent don’t say ARC on them. Sometimes there are the actual finished product, which is always a treat. I’m glad you are going to join!
Teddy Rose ~ If they don’t have to be actual ARCs, only books sent to me by publishers/publicists/authors to review, then I have my list! Yippee! Thanks!!
Hey Teddy Rose, Count me in again, I’m just bad about posting my list but I will get to it on vacation:) Thanks for hosting! This is the only challenge I join (time)
I look forward to seeing you post. I’m glad your joining!
J. Kaye,
Nice list! I may catch-up to you “long-listers” I have more ARC’s on the way. LOL! There like Lays Potatoe chips, “You can just eat(request, read)just one”. LOL!
Sign me up! Here is my post about the challenge. I’m going to go with the literal definition of ARC and only list those books which are truly ARCs (even still…I have far more than 12!!!)
Should they be current ARC’s or would ARC’s I never got to many years ago count? After all, I was supposed to read them then, I just didn’t manage to do it. 😛
I don’t have that many review books but since I do want to make sure to read them I thought I’d join in. I just posted about it here and my list of review books is here. Thanks Teddy!
Tanabata, I’m glad you joinedee the challenge! Remeber, if you get more ARC’s throughout the year you add them to your list, so you may end upo with more to read for the challenge.
Madeleine, It’s not too late to join this challenge if you want. Just do up you list like I outlined in the rules and leave a comment with a link to your list.
Kristi, I don’t know how I keep up either. It does help that in your comments you include the title of the book and author. That wasy I can just cut and paste and not have to look it up on you blog first! Thanks for the links.
I don’t know how you manage to keep track of all this! It would drive me insane. Guess that’s why I participate in challenges but don’t run any of my own LOL
A big congrats to Nicola and then Kristi! They both crossed the finish line for the challenge. They are both continuing on the The Overascheivers level.
Thanks for the links Alyce, Nicola, Wendy, Kristi, and Alea.
Congrat to Alea and Alyce for completing level one. You are now wroking on level 2, The Overachievers.
Note to all,
I’m no longer going to comment on your reviews on your blogs that I added the link to this post. When you give me the links I will add them as usual. However, you may want to check this post every once in awhile to make sure I didn’t mis any. If I do miss anything, please let me know.
Nicola, Dar, Rima, Alea, Alyce, and Kristi; Thanks for the links!
All,
It seems that there are some in this group are ARC obsessed. For those among us who will surpass the overacheivers level, I am now adding the Totally ARC obsessed level. The object, to read over 25 ARC’s.
Who among us think they will be Totally ARC Obsessed?
Nicola, Kristi, Alyce, and Dar, thanks for the links.
Alea, Congrats on crossing the finish like. This must mean that you are the biggest addict of us all. LOL! Way to go!
Rima, Thanks for the links. In future it would be much appreciated if you include the title and author in the comments along with the links. It makes my job easier. Thanks!
Thanks for the link to Wintergirls. From now, could you please include the title and author of the book along with the link. It will save me time because then I can cut and paste. Thanks!
So this officially makes me finished but I am going to continue to keep track of the arcs coming in and the ones I read as this is going to be a wonderful list to go back and refer to in the future.
Do you prefer the html code or is a direct link okay if we list the title and author? I know you can copy and past the link directly onto your blog without losing the link, but I’m not sure if that’s how you do it or if you prefer to work in the html code yourself.
Wendy, Thanks for all the links. I would love direct links! BTW, I haven’t figured out how to put direct links in comments like that. Would you be able to explain how?
PLEASE, PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE include the title and author in your comments so that I can just cut and paste rather than have to type out myself. Thanks!
At first you may wonder why I have an arc of book first published in 1957. Well, I have the New York Review’s new re-print edition, out just a couple of days ago!
Nicola, Tanabata, and Kristi, thanks for the links!
Gaby, please keep you list on your own blog. I don’t keep one for you. Then when you write a review, on your blog, put the Title and Author along with the link to your blog review in the comments here and I will link it.
I only brought arcs with me to my dads so I have no choice right now. I’m coming home tomorrow so I might slow down. But I’m betting there is going to be a pile of parcels for me to open when I get home!
Alyce, 25 is it, but some people added more after that so I am calling it ARC obsessed. You don’t have to keep going if you don’t want. You finished the challenge. Congrats!
I would love to do this! But, I just started reviewing and can’t figure out how you get so many ARC’s. I only got about 3 so far this year, because I used to review for Harper Collins. I thought their program stopped, and I want to get a bunch! I read so quickly!
There are lots of ways to get ARC’s. For started, subscribe to the Shelf Awareness newsletter. There are links in just about every issue for ARC’s. It comes to your inbox monday through Friday. Here: http://www.shelf-awareness.com/
There’s a great post on how to get ARC’s on one of my favorite book blogs, The Blue Stocking Society:
As you can tell, I am having trouble keeping up with posting links.
I just installed Mr. Linky on this post. From now on, please post your links to Mr. Linky. That will save me a lot of work.
To Gaby, Tanabata, and Kristi, sorry for the hassle, but could you please post the link you sent me to Mr. Linky?
Thanks to everyone for your understanding! I really like having all our reviews listed the way I was doing it but I just don’t have the time any longer.
I’m in 🙂
http://abookgeek.blogspot.com/2008/12/2009-arc-reading-challenge.html
I’m backing off of ARCs this year, but I’ll post your challenge on my Official List for other people to find. (Stealing Athena is quite good, BTW!)
Lezlie
PS I stole your Obama pic. 🙂
Count me in. Here’s my post.
I wanna play! http://www.bookconfessions.com/?p=963
What an awesome challenge! I’ll be back later with my link. 🙂
Do these have to be ARCs (like marked on the book) or books sent to us to reviewed. If so, I don’t think there is an audio ARC. Audios are published after the hardcovers or so I’ve been told.
Good question J.Kaye! Probably only half of the books I have to review are actual ARCS. Definitely considering joining this one!
Alea, I know! I have like 20 review books, but one actual advance copy. And that was given to me by a friend…lol!
Maria, Laza, and Jamie,
Thanks for joining the challenge!
Lezlie,
I should be backing off ARC’s but have a horrible addiction! Enjoy the Obama pic!
J Kaye,

J. Kaye,
Nice list! I may catch-up to you “long-listers” I have more ARC’s on the way. LOL! There like Lays Potatoe chips, “You can just eat(request, read)just one”. LOL!
Teddy Rose ~ Unless the book fits in the criteria of the 2009 book challenges, I won’t be accepting more. If I don’t, I’ll never finish them!
I’m in! Thanks for hosting. I have just started reading ARC’s so this is a good opportunity for me to keep them organized too! My list so far is here: http://booksandneedlepoint.blogspot.com/2008/12/2009-arc-reading-challenge.html

Hi all,
As you can tell, I am having trouble keeping up with posting links.
No problem. Already done.
Finished and reviewed Something Beyond Greatness by Judy Rodgers and Gayatri Naraine. My review is here: http://thekoolaidmom.wordpress.com/2009/06/28/something-beyond-greatness-by-judy-rodgers-and-gayatri-naraine/
I’ve finished and reviewed Neil Armstrong is My Uncle and Other Lies Muscle Man McGinty Told Me by Nan Marino.
http://thekoolaidmom.wordpress.com/2009/07/14/neil-armstrong-is-my-uncle-by-nan-marino/
thekoolaidmom and Kristy, and all,
Please enter your links to review on Mr. Linky.
I am no longer doing them manually.
and another: The Inconvenient Adventures of Uncle Chestnut by Paul Nowak, my review is here: http://thekoolaidmom.wordpress.com/2009/07/16/the-inconvenient-adventures-of-uncle-chestnut-by-paul-nowak/
sorry Teddy, I just saw your comment. I’ll put that in Mr. Linky from now on. 321 comments, I guess it gets a little hard to follow after awhile 😉
My latest read for this challenge is The Good Thief…reviewed here.
Wendy, please use Mr. Linky to link your reviews. I am not doing it manually any more.
Hi Teddy,
I added my latest reviews through Mr. Linky. Please let me know if I need to do anything else – does it automatically just upload?
I need to check this out…
Thanks for the challenge!
gaby
