I have previously reviewed two stories in this short story collection, Stolpestad and Chickens.
Now that I have read the entire collection I can say that this is one of the better collections I have read. My favorite stories were the two mentioned above. My least favorite was the title story, The Architect of Flowers. It had the incredible prose of the other stories but it was too dis-jointed to me.
All in all, Lychack’s writing was powerful prose with a dash of humor and lots of drama. I challenge people who say they don’t like short stories to read this collection. As I’ve said before, short story writing is an art. William Lychack has a strong command over this art.

I must say, with your reviews of this book you’ve managed to make an unfamiliar name familiar to me, gotten me to read one of his stories, and made be curious for more. Good job!
John, that’s great. I hope you to read more by him. Hey, thanks for all of your encouragement through the years!
I agree that writing short stories well is a true art. This collection sounds like something I’ll try. Thanks for introducing me.
Rosita, I would love to know what you think, if you do check it out. If you click on the links to the two shorts that I reviewed separately from the book, you will find links to read both stories for free. That may give you a good idea if you would like this collection.
Thanks for that tip. I’m going to do that!
