Thanks to Ann-Marie Nieves of Get Red PR, I am giving away one print copy of Comanche Captive by D. Laszlo Conhaim.

Description Comanche Captive by D. Laszlo Conhaim

Scott Renald is an Indian agent searching for white captives. Laura Little is a former captive seeking her Comanche-born son. They meet unexpectedly on the high plains. Touched by her story, Renald leads Laura’s search while hostile tribesmen pursue them. Word of their predicament reaches Fort Sill, and agents are dispatched to grab her and recall him. Meanwhile, the army prepares for war with the Comanche. Circumstances propel all into a heart-wrenching and bloody conflict of competing loyalties and surprising discoveries against the scorched backdrop of the Staked Plain.

How does a captive become a willing tribal member? Can rescue and return be a crueler form of abduction? Comanche Captive depicts what happens after the taken has been found—in Laura’s case, forced separation from her child, unwanted psychiatric care, and finally the deadly consequences of her quest for her lost son.

An adventure novel of depth and contemporary resonance, equal parts poignant drama and playful homage, Comanche Captive offers a cast of vivid characters faced with the challenges of a divided and yet increasingly blended world.

Making Peace With Suicide

Insightful, compelling, and compassionate, Making Peace with Suicide: A Book of Hope, Understanding, and Comfort takes a good hard look at the world-wide phenomena of suicide. This book is designed for anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide and felt that sucker punch of grief; for anyone who is in pain, walking unsteadily, and considering suicide as an option; and for anyone who works with, guides, or counsels those feeling suicidal and/or suffering the profound grief from a suicidal loss.

Making Peace with Suicide includes stories of courage, vulnerability, and steadfastness from both the survivors of suicidal loss as well as the unique perspective of the formerly suicidal. It offers shared wisdom and coping strategies from those who have walked before you. It explores the factors leading to suicide and the reasons why some do and some don’t leave suicide notes.

Making Peace with Suicide sheds light on the phenomena of suicide vis-à-vis our teens, the military, new mothers, as an end-of-life choice, and asks if addiction is a form of slow suicide. It provides a seven-step healing process and opens the door to consider suicide and the soul, the heart lesson of suicide, and the energies of suicide.

If suicidality has impacted your life, Making Peace with Suicide is a must-read. You will be guided through the unknown territory, given insights to allow understanding, stories to help you heal, and ways to make peace with a heart wide-open. Making Peace with Suicide is good medicine for the body, mind, and soul.

My Thoughts Making Peace with Suicide by Adele Ryan McDowell, Ph.D.

When I was about 9 years old my father took me to a new amusement park with his friend, Mr. A. and his son, Ward.  It was then that I got to know Mr. A. and became quite fond of him.  A few months later, he committed suicide.  I don’t think anyone really knew why.  I remember being really sad.  The adults had trouble coping with it so I don’t think they knew how to help the kids.  I felt especially bad for Ward.

Then fast forward to around 2010.  I was still a full time social worker in mental health.  One of the people I was working with moved and I had to hand her case over to a different social worker in that city.  I did occasionally check in and after a couple months, I was told she committed suicide.  It was soon after that, I quite social work full time and only stayed on to consult and teach workshops on occasion.

I wish I had the book ‘Making Peace With Suicide’ back then.  I think it would have helped me even more that the counseling I went through.  Adele Ryan McDowell brings a fresh perspective to the subject without bringing a lot of religion into it, as so many people tend to do.  I know many find comfort in religion and I think that is great.  I am not a very religious person and look for answers anywhere I can find them.  Through the humanities, history, and literature, etc.

If you are like me in that regard, or even if you are religious, I think that this book can help you cope if you have a friend or loved one that has committed suicide or even attempted it.  Ms. McDowell shows much compassion and insight through her many years of experience.  She writes for regular people, not just for professionals in her field.  Unlike some dry clinical books, she brings humanity into the subject. This book is powerful! I highly recommend ‘Making Peace With Suicide’!

Qi Orthopedic Pillow: Review

Qi Orthopedic Pillow Qi Orthopedic Pillow

I have suffered with back pain for years.  I have gone through chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, and physiotherapy.  I believe much of my back problems stem from sitting at a computer every day.  When I received an offer to review the Qi Orthopedic Pillow, of course, I had to accept.

Description Qi Orthopedic Pillow

Did you know that studies have shown that:

  1. most lower back pain is caused by physical stress and tension in the back due to poor sitting posture?
  2. your back is being damaged at least 80% of the time when you sit in a chair, couch, or bed for more than 20 minutes without a proper back support?
  3. poor sitting posture is a leading cause for lower back pain?

Imagine you have an effective solution to help you quickly and easily reduce the stress, tension and pain in your lower back while sitting. Look no further. Qi Best Orthopedic Pillow is the world’s only clinically-proven back relieving throw pillow support for chairs, sofas, couches and beds.

This orthopedic cushion back support pillow for sitting, is designed to offer medical-grade back support. Its luxurious and neutral design and colorway will add elegance to any home environment.

Unlike any other conventional sofa pillows, QiPillow orthopedic lumbar support sitting pillow instantly fits to your body shape, and will never collapse under body weight as it is extremely durable.

Moreover, this orthopedic cushion seat effectively helps improve spinal alignment, relieve back stiffness, back pain and back fatigue as well as helps users upgrade their chairs, sofas, couches, and beds instantly.

3 things that separate QiPillow from the rest?Qi Orthopedic Pillow

  • The QiPillow has been proven by third party clinical study to help 91.3% of back pain sufferers relieve their back stiffness, pain and fatigue, and improve their sitting comfort and posture.
  • Qi Orthopedic Pillow may be worlds only clinically proven back pain relieving throw pillow.
  • Qi Orthopedic Pillow offers all 3 essential qualities of an ideal back relieving pillow:
    • Adjustable – like a Sleep Number bed, it can be customized to suite any body and chair/couch
    • Durable – unlike conventional pillows that lose their support within 5 min. of use, Qi Orthopedic Pillow maintains its level of support throughout your sitting, day after day.
    • Dynamic – Its support automatically goes where it is needed, no matter your body moves or what position it is in.

My Thoughts Qi Orthopedic Pillow

I have tried many back support pillows and contraptions of the years.  These days, memory foam ones are the most popular.  However, I find that memory foam flattens pretty quickly making me wonder, why do they call it memory foam anyway?  It certainly does remember the curve of my back, so what is the point?

Qi Orthopedic Pillow is totally different.  It is inflatable so it always remembers it’s setting.  A couple of puffs of air does the trick to get excellent back support. I am using it right now as I write this in my office chair.  I just got back from a trip to visit my Mother in Minneapolis.  I certainly could have used this for the plane!  Bill and I are making the 6 hour drive to Portland Oregon over the Thanksgiving weekend and I will certainly use it in the car!

I highly recommend the Qi Orthopedic Pillow!

I received the Qi Orthopedic Pillow for my honest review.
