Unable to trust anyone else, Madeline reaches out to Daphne and to the only man she can count on to help: Jack Rayner, a security expert with a profoundly intimate understanding of warped and dangerous minds. Along with his high-tech genius of a brother, the four of them will form an uneasy alliance against a killer who will stop at nothing to hide the truth….

Big Flies by Keith HirshlandBig Flies by Keith Hirshland

In Sierra Nevada, Leland’s father, Chester Daniel David, highly celebrated travel writer dies. Leland becomes heir to the estate.  It is there that Leland comes across disturbing evidence that all the travel stories his father told were not authentic.  Worse, Leland is compelled to solve the mystery of what Chester had really been up to and at the same time, try to solve several related unsolved mysteries.

Some of the unsolved mysteries used in the story are real mysteries that are still unsolved today like the D. B. Cooper plane skyjacking and ransom demand in the Pacific Northwest and the inexplicable vanishing of $1 million from the Chicago First National Bank.

Big Flies is an entertaining search for the truth.  Keith Hirshland uses lots of humor and a well drawn out and colorful cast of characters.  With an intriguing plot and beautiful landscape, Hirshland weaves his tale seamlessly. I don’t read a lot of mysteries but I am so glad I read ‘Big Flies’!  I loved how Hirshland tied in real events to give it a more realistic feel.  I truly didn’t want it to end!  Highly recommended!

I received the ebook for my honest opinion.

Ziggy Marley and Family Cookbook by Ziggy MarleyZiggy Marley and Family Cookbook by Ziggy Marley

I have always liked Ziggy Marley’s music so when I saw that he also had a cookbook out, I was curious.  It was presented in an email to me with an offer for a free copy.  Part of the pitch said it has “many vegan and vegetarian recipes.  Normally, I will only accept cookbooks that are vegan or at least vegetarian but I made an exception for this one.

The book is beautiful with colorful ingredients and photos of many of the dishes.  Just look at the cover to get a glimpse of the beauty! However, I was disappointed that there were not as many vegan and vegetarian recipes as I was lead to believe.  I know some people consider fish to be vegetarian however; real vegetarians will tell you that “if it can stare back at you, it’s not vegetarian.”  Since this book has many fish recipes, I think that is where the confusion came from.

That said, there are a few veggie recipes and there are some that can be tweaked to become vegetarian or even vegan, if you know how.  My favorite recipe is the Coconut Curry Squash Soup.  It was already vegan, so no tweaking required. It was so flavorful that I have already made it twice.  The lental Soup was good as was the Tofu In Coconut Carrot Curry. There are also some nice salad and smoothie recipes.

Seeing photos of some of the fish and chicken dishes were a bit off putting to me but I did know the risk I was taking accepting this cookbook so I certainly can’t take points off for that.  Over all, it is a solid cookbook with some good recipes.  It would be especially good for someone transitioning to vegetarian.

I received the colorful hardcover book for my honest opinion.
