As the Great War rages, an independent young woman struggles to sustain love—and life—through the power of words. It’s 1917 and America is on the brink of World War I. After Hensley Dench’s father is forced to resign from the New York Times for his anti-war writings, she finds herself expelled from the life she loves and the future she thought she would have.
Instead, Hensley is transplanted to New Mexico, where her father has taken a job overseeing a gold mine. Driven by loneliness, Hensley hijacks her father’s correspondence with Charles Reid, a young American medic with whom her father plays chess via post. Hensley secretly begins her own exchange with Charles, but looming tragedy threatens them both, and—when everything turns against them—will their words be enough to beat the odds?
Praise for This Is How I’d Love You:
“In This is How I’d Love You, Hazel Woods explores the enduring nature of an improbable love born of words, washed in tragedy, and sustained despite impossible circumstances. With prose as immediate and evocative as a painting, Woods accomplishes the magic of rendering sorrow into hope and fear into courage. It is as idealistic a tale as it is clear-sighted, a brilliant alchemy few novels achieve. Readers, prepare to melt” — Robin Oliveria, author of My Name is Mary Sutter

The era, the story and the characters are all captivating. thanks.
I love historical fiction and I’ve been reading great reviews about this one!
I enjoy books set in this time period.
So, is this a second, separate giveaway contest for this book — in addition to the previously posted one here?
Note: I have not collected comment points for this contest…I will, however, instead seek credit as a comment on another post for today. I’ll comment more substantively if I wish — and ever-unforgiving Time — allow me to seek credit for this particular contest.
Thanks very much, Kara
Yes, this is an entirely separate giveaway from the other. It gives everyone another chance to win.
The previous comment should read: “if my wishes — and ever-unforgiving Time — permit (or allow) me…”; as it reads, it shows what I feel is a terribly shameful grammar mistake for me to make…although I’m sure no one else will care…Thanks/Sorry, Kara
Ok, here is what I’m calling the substantive comment:
I honestly don’t enjoy reading about love. However, what I see in your post, as well as what I’ve read in reviews and features on other sites about this book, strongly indicate to me that this book will be a great multi-dimensional psychological novel centered on a well-developed character. As a reader, I don’t mind being turned off by some of the plot if there’s other stuff in a story that interests me — let alone mind a dreadful love story that comes with strong writing and substantial development of complex themes! 😉
Thanks for this feature and what I take to be an incredible second opportunity to add this promising novel to my personal library! Cheers, Kara
I love historical fiction and recently finished another book on the Great War as well as WW 2. Also a fan of letter writing! Beautiful cover too!!
I love the vintage cover and I always enjoy historical fiction.
I am interested in this book because it is a love story and is set during World War I. I would love to see how it all turns out.
This sounds like a wonderful story. I’ve just discovered that I love reading about wartime and soldiers, so this is very much something I’d love to win!
