Thanks to Kathryn Santora of Plume | Hudson Street Press | Penguin Random House, I’m giving away one copy print copy of ‘This I How I’d Love You.
Book Description:
This month marks the centennial anniversary of the start of World War I. The war was marked with both terrible loss and incredible bravery. It is difficult to imagine that during this time there was still love, progress and joy – however author HAZEL WOODS has done just that. Her novel THIS IS HOW I’D LOVE YOU is a sweeping love story about Hensley Dench and her solider, Charles Reid.
America is on the brink of joining the war and Hensley, a 17 year old romantic with an independent spirit is on her way to New Mexico where her father has taken a job overseeing a gold mine. Forced to resign from his position at the New York Times for anti-war writings, Hensley finds herself also expelled from her exciting New York life and driven into loneliness as she heads west.
It is only after hijacking her father’s chess-by-post game with Charles Reid, a young American medic who chose to leave his family’s booming steel business and support the war efforts, does she begin to regain her zest for life. As Henley and Charles exchange intimate letters stitched together with words of hope and love, the treat of tragedy looms and they are afraid they may lose the greatest love they’ve ever known.
THIS IS HOW I’D LOVE YOU is a saga for the ages. It perfectly encapsulates WWI with vivid depictions of both life on the forefront and home front of war. With the centennial, Wood’s has created the perfect novel to commemorate the anniversary by transporting readers back to the 1900’s, filling hearts with a love story that transcends time and uses the power of words to sustain love and life.
HAZEL WOODS lives in New Mexico with her husband and two children.

A captivating and fascinating novel which I would enjoy.
I love novels that take place during the World Wars. This one sounds wonderful!
This sounds like a wonderful love story taking place in a very interesting time in history.
Thanks for featuring this novel and giving readers a chance to win, Teddy. I am interested to see how the author structures this novel and covers the time periods on the homefront, and I am very intrigued by the epistolary content of the novel. It seems like this books could be interesting plot-wise as well as in terms of literary structure.
Cheers, Kara
First, I really like this cover. I have been warming up to the WWI and WWII periods of HF as well as epistolary style novels (which have taken me a while to enjoy) – so I am looking forward to this one.
It’s a time period that interests me and I like epistolary format in novels.
I am a sucker for a good love story and I am glad that WWI era is getting more coverage in historical fiction now. I really enjoyed Letters from Skye by Jessica Brockmole and the blurb on this one reminds me a bit of that. Would love to read this one 🙂
I have read similar saga type novels about WWII, but not very much about WWI. I think those years just after the turn of the century would be interesting to read about. Thanks!
This story sounds great!
I’ve been reading so many old books lately, I’m ready for something new.
Thanks for the giveaway!!
I love historical books, especially those during war times. I know…a bit morbid, but I just love the romance during those times and I haven’t read many WWI books, so this would be a treat!
