I may be a day late posting this but better late..
I read Bow Grip by Ivan E. Coyote back in 2010 and kew I wanted to read more by her. She was at the Vancouver International Writers Festival that year and I baught one of her books of short stories, Loose End and she signed it for me. I just picked up for the first time over the weekend. Boy am I glad I did.
In Saturday and Cowboy Hats the narrater of the story, perhaps Ivan herself is at her neighborhood farmers market with her dog. A 6 year boy goes to pet her dog. It turned out that his name was Oliva, she was a girl. Ivan wanted to reach out to her an tell her that everything will be okay. She wanted to prepare her for her future as a lesbion.
The story was a well crafted peice on gender idenity. It was subtle yet pwoerful. All this in just rwo and a half pages! If you get the chance to read this author, do it!
Short Story Monday is hosted by John at The Book Mine Set.

I discovered Ivan last year and love her short stories, even though in general I’m not a short story fan. Glad to hear you’re enjoying them too!
I learned of Coyote through previous short Story Monday posts, but have not read her work yet. I am intrigued, so must make more of an effort!
Avis, Bow Grip is a novel, actually mor the length of a novela. You may want to check it out. It blew me away.
JoAnn, I hope you get to read her sometime, her work is worth seeking out.
Right, I knew she had written one novel, I just didn’t remember what it was called. I must get my hands on it!
