celebration of the 44th U.S. President, Barack Obama.
The American Journey of Barack Obama by The Editors of LIFE Magazine
Book Description:
The American Journey of Barack Obama covers the candidate from his childhood and adolescence to his time as editor of The Harvard Law Review and his Chicago activist years, culminating with the excitement and fervor of the historic 2008 Democratic National Convention. The unfolding drama of Obama’s life and political career is cinematic in scope, and never has it been presented so compellingly.
In addition to a powerful array of photographs that were taken by many of the country’s greatest photographers (and some that were snapped, in the quiet moments, by Obama family members themselves), this book also includes a Foreword by Senator Edward M. Kennedy, an incisive narrative biography and original essays by some of our finest writers, including Gay Talese, Charles Johnson, Melissa Fay Greene, Andrei Codrescu, Fay Weldon, Richard Norton Smith, Bob Greene and several others. Many readers will find a new understanding of Obama. All readers will feel that they are bearing witness to a singular, undeniably American story.

I’ll be first in line to try to win this book from you!! I’m so happy today I could just cry!
Me too Stephanie. I was thinking about you last night!
This election gives me hope for the future. I started out as a Clinton supporter. After his speech at the Dem. convention, I began to like him more and more. By the time of the election I strongly supported his candidacy and now I am so grateful for his victory. I believe we can expect America’s global reputation to improve, the economic situation here at home will get better. I believe under his leadership, America will begin to heal the divisiveness that now exists between political parties, between the races, between age groups, along economic lines. America has become fractured and I have faith in Obama’s ability to heal that fracture.
I don’t love Obama, but I do have HOPE that he can do something to fix the mess of the last eight years.
Thanks for the giveaway!
I’m in for this one. And for the extra tries I will say that having Obama win the presidency means we get a chance to actually hope for a better tomorrow. He brings ideals to the white house that have not been seen there in generations. He lifts our hearts and makes us want to find strength in each of our lives so that collectively we can stand a chance. He unites us and that is what a leader should do.
Nice! We just bought this last night, so you don’t need to enter me, but what a great prize!!

I’m in for this one..this looks like an awesome book. For me, having Obama win the presidency gives me hope for our future that we will see needed changes in our economy, more jobs in our own country instead of outsourcing and respect and honor from other countries.
Thanks for hosting this giveaway!!
I’m ashamed to say I haven’t read any books on him so I’d love a chance to read this one. Great giveaway!
I think this is a perfect time to read about our new President! Thanks for this offer Teddy! It’s going to be a long road but we can do it together. I felt excitement this election, for the first time in many years!!! Linda/CT
What it means to me is: Sarah will be back in 2012; change, hopefully for the better (we don’t like where we are now yet it could be far worse), a more watchful eye on the economy (unfortunately) and a tighter hold on the purse strings (again unfortunately).
I would like this book, for I would like to see what all life shares about his life.
Thank you for asking,
Darby

I would love to win a copy of this book (and if I don’t, I will go out and buy it)! This is the most inspiring election I can remember. Obama managed to put the power of election back in the hands of the people, including those who felt marginalized or were disgusted with the process. I think we’re looking at a more involved, alive, and tolerant nation!
Oh–and here is the link to my blog!

Thanks!
I’m glad lisalit referred me to your blog. Obama’s winning the election meant to me a very amazing evening in Chicago’s Grant Park. I brought my hardcover copy of Obama’s Audacity of Hope, and had about 40 people that night sign it, from random fellow “el” passengers, to revelers out on the street, to dear friends we met that night. Obama’s election to me means that I can hold my head up high once again. It heralds hope for me. As a former (and it’s not out of my blood yet) community organizer in Chicago, it means watching exciting developments in how government and democracy happen in this country. Thanks for this contest!
At 11 pm Eastern on November 4, 2008 I sat in awe in front of my computer. Watching the states turn blue was nerve-wracking. Waiting for the other shoe to drop had me on the edge of my seat. Fear of another eight years of corruption had driven me near to madness. And there I was, suddenly unburdened from these worries. Unbalanced by the reality, tears began pouring down my cheeks while my lips drew a proud smile across my face. I whispered to the computer, “God Bless America!” and floated to bed, dreaming of the brighter years ahead.
I want to thank all of you who have entered this contest. I have been enjoying all of your comments!
David,
That is so cool that you were there! As I was watching on T.V. I kept saying to my husband “I wish we were there, we should have gone.” To be there on such a historic occassion must have been amazing. An experience of a lifetime!
Thanks for the great giveaway. I would love the opportunity to read about our next President! This is only the second Presidential election that I have voted in (first husband was navy – and we moved alot – never voted…) It was truly a historic election and I am glad that I was a part of it. I believe this country is ready for a change – but I am not sure that it is going to come as quickly as we hope!
Kristi
I can’t wait for our new President to start his new job! I live in the D.C. area and hope to go to the inauguration. Maybe he’ll sign this book if I win (dream on…). Thanks!
Thanks for the opportunity to win this book. I’d love to have and save it for my grandkids.
This is the first time in, oh, 40 some years since “Camelot” that I’ve been hopeful for America and the world. I certainly hope we can keep the “We” in “Yes, We Can!”
I put a blurb about it on my post for today.
I would love to read this book. Barack Obama means that our country has finally reached a point it has yearned for.
I’d love to learn more about our new President.
