Guest Post By Sarah Bates, Author of Twenty-One Steps Of Courage
When I started writing Twenty-One Steps of Courage, a novel about an Army troop desperate to become a Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown in Arlington National Cemetery, I also began sending packages to troops I found on www.anysoldier.com. I wanted to help make their lives more comfortable while they protected mine. I must have sent a hundred boxes, lining up at the post office with moms, grandmothers, and wives, myself not having a child or husband serving. A few letters of gratitude came my way, but the satisfaction I received from just sending the boxes was enough.
