Giveaway: On the Outside Looking Indian by Rupinder Gill

Thanks to Caitlin Mulrooney-Lyski of Berkley/Penguin Group USA, I am giving away one copy of On the Outside Looking Indian.

Book Description:

Rupinder was raised, like many children of immigrants, under the strict rules of her parent’s traditional Indian upbringing. While her friends were practicing their plies at ballet class, having slumber parties, and spending their summers at camp, Rupinder was cleaning, babysitting her siblings and watching hours on end of American television. Kept at home—safe from the corrupting influences of the outside world—Rupinder ate junk food and found solace in the familiar characters of Days of Our Lives, Who’s the Boss, and Welcome Back, Kotter.

Rupinder realized how much she regretted her lack of childhood adventure and vowed she would not let her childhood hold her back any more. She would learn to swim and go to camp, get a pet, take dance classes and even go to Disneyworld . By her thirtieth birthday, Rupinder had a plan: in one year she would check off each of the things on her list, wrap up her youth and move gracefully into adulthood.

What began as a desire to experience all that she missed out on as a child, quickly turns into much more as Rupinder discovers what it means to be happy, finds the courage to pursue her dreams, and realizes that the most important lessons are learned when we are at play.
