Giveaway: And So It Goes by Charles Shields

Thanks to Christine Choe of Henry Holt & Company, I am giving away two copies of And So It Goes.

Book Description:

The first authoritative biography of Kurt Vonnegut Jr., a writer who changed the conversation of American literature.
In 2006, Charles Shields reached out to Kurt Vonnegut in a letter, asking for his endorsement for a planned biography. The first response was no (“A most respectful demurring by me for the excellent writer Charles J. Shields, who offered to be my biographer”). Unwilling to take no for an answer, propelled by a passion for his subject, and already deep into his research, Shields wrote again and this time, to his delight, the answer came back: “O.K.” For the next year—a year that ended up being Vonnegut’s last—Shields had access to Vonnegut and his letters.

Read about the life of the iconic American writer of definitive works such as Slaughterhouse-Five and Cat’s Cradle in And So It Goes by Charles J. Shields.

About Charles Shields:

I’m a biographer of post-World War II American authors, whose first biography for adults was Mockingbird: A Portrait of Harper Lee. My latest book is And So It Goes: Kurt Vonnegut, A Life, slated for release from Henry Holt & Co. in November.

I’ve created a blog,”Writing Kurt Vonnegut” which is about the art and craft of biography, based on my experiences. I’m treating it as a kind of journal, and a new entry will appear every Saturday.

A biographer is a literary detective, a Columbo who’s always saying, “Now let me get this straight” or starting a lot of sentences in his mind with “In other words….”

You’ll find out what it’s like trying to research and tell, for the first time, the life of one of the most popular, controversial, and influential novelists of the 20th century by Googling “Writing Kurt Vonnegut.”

Hope you’ll give it a look!
