Praise Princess Adele’s Dragon by Shirley McLain

“Princess Adele’s Dragon is a book full of treason, friendship, love and even a witch who can cast some pretty mean spells. The real deceit comes when Adele and her brother find that two of the people they trust the most are out for one thing – to make the kingdom their own. They must hang on but at what cost?

This book may sound deep but it is really an easy read. It moves fast without losing your interest and attention to the events taking place. I think it’s a book young readers would enjoy. I did.”- Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat; Think With Your Taste Buds; A Book and A Dish

“An easy to follow read with complex story and great characters. I enjoyed it a lot and I gave it to my son as well. He enjoyed it and keeps reading the book. He loves dragons, this got him hooked :). So, I can easily recommend the book to young and experienced readers.”- Maxwell Flanagan, Goodreads

“This book is a fantastic addition to the fantasy genre. It’s one of the absolute best stories you’ll ever read. It’s a short, fast-paced book. The story is more focused on what’s happening with the characters rather than describing the settings. I love this because it lets me use my imagination to fill in the gaps. For me it’s great!”-Fifi_18, Amazon

“It’s a good story that’s very fast paced, every chapter is only a few pages so it’s a very pick up and read sort of book that’s easily to digest. It’s not overly long and outlandish. I think this author gets it. She understands that focusing on the action, makes the book a lot more enjoyable. At least it does for me.”-JP, Amazon

Interview with Shirley McLain

TR: Please tell us something about Princess Adele’s Dragon that is not in the summary.  (About the book, character you particularly enjoyed writing, etc.)

SM: I enjoyed writing about what a strong woman, Princess Adele was.

Guilt and shame made Bethelda run from her home.

TR: I always enjoy looking at the names that authors choose to give their characters. Where do you derive the names of your characters?  Are they based on real people you knew or now know in real life? How do you create names for your characters?

SM: My muse creates my character names. Sometimes when I’m doing research, I may come across a name that fits my fictional character. Other times I use family and friends’ names.

TR: Where did you get the inspiration for your cover?

SM: My cover was created by a talented seller from Fiverr. I told her I wanted a concept with the dragon and the Princess, and she came up with this one. I loved it.

TR: What is your favorite scene in the book? Why?

SM: My favorite scene in the book is when Princess Adele figures out the Dragon was not what she thought it was.

TR: Which actress would you like to see playing Adele from Princess Adele’s Dragon? Are there any other actors you would like to see play some of the other characters?  Who?

SM: That is difficult to say because there are so many great actors.

I would combine actresses for Princess Adele. I would have Whoopie Goldberg’s personality on Ghost and Daryl Hannah from Splash for her looks.  Anthony/Dragon I would have played by Taylor Lautner from Twilight fame. Lord— I would have played by Vincent Price. I love his voice and the evil he can portray on the screen. I fully realize that I will need to change Anthony’s description in the book. That’s one of the fun things about writing; you can do anything with your work if you have the desire, time, and or money.

TR: What kind of messages do you try to instill in your writing?

SM: I don’t try to bring forth a message to the reader. I do want them to come away from the book thinking about how they liked the story and were entertained.

TR: What draws you to this genre?

SM: I have always loved fantasy. I like thinking of the impossible.

TR: Will Princess Adele have more to tell readers in the future?

CT: Oh yes, the second book, “The Maid of Bitmore Swamp,” is taken from the witch and her child in this book.

TR: Do you have any writing projects that you are currently working on?

SM: I love to write short stories, and I’m writing short stories now for my book that will be coming out next year called “Shirley’s compilation of Short Stories. The genres are eclectic.

TR: Is there a question that you would have liked me or another blogger to ask but didn’t? If so, please ask and answer.

SM: I want to ask, what would you tell a person who is thinking about writing a book?

Not to be afraid to write. That one fear alone has caused many a story not to be written. Just sit down at the computer or with a pen and paper to tell the story you want to tell. It can be refined after the first draft. We can do anything we want to create. “No fear, just do it.”
