Description City of Deadly Dreams by Elyse Douglas
Dane Cooper, an NYC Hell’s Kitchen private detective, is hired by a Tennessee man to find his handsome, 20-year-old son named Elvis, who has been missing for several months. Though hesitant at first, Dane takes the case because he needs the money. Dane soon learns that the case centers around a beautiful, mysterious blonde, named Darcy. Against his better judgment, he falls for her, believing she might lead him to Elvis. Her dangerous secrets trouble him, and he realizes he can’t trust her.
Dane’s investigation turns deadly when he learns that Elvis has left a trail of pregnant young girls, unhappy husbands, and vengeful women. Dane becomes a target as he struggles to find Elvis and save him from the killers who are closing in. Can Dane save Elvis and himself, or will Darcy’s secrets get them all killed?

Praise Daring Summer by Elyse Douglas
“Daring Summer by Elyse Douglas is a well-crafted tale that will keep you reading as you need to know the outcome. This story aptly epitomizes the saying by Confucius, ‘’before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves’’.
An interesting cast of characters that helped to drive the plot. It was fun getting to know each of them. Their thoughts and the events that drove their actions stood out making it easy to connect to them.
Daring Summer was an interesting and riveting read. I enjoyed the courtroom drama and loved how the events in that regard that unfolded. The story delivered a perfect blend of romance and suspense. The story had depth and was well developed.”-Nadene, Totally Addicted To Reading
“Oooo romantic AND suspenseful! A very exciting, emotional, twisty, and a little scary story line. The thing is. You really do know “who done it” kind of right from the beginning. But, even with that knowing – Did I have doubts? yep. Did I want to believe it might be someone else? well… kind of. And I just kept wondering – Are they going to catch him? Wait… wasn’t it him? Maybe.
All those twists and turns is what makes this a great book and loads of fun to read. Seriously, right up until the end I was unsure if they were going to be able to prove it! It ended up being one of my favorite books of the year!”-Wall-To-Wall Books
“Daring Summer is a very well written book. Although you pretty much know how it’s going to end the author still manages to keep you thoroughly captivated. The characters are well developed and interesting. Overall I really enjoyed this book. 5 Stars”- J. George, Amazon: Vine Voice
“Emotional, exciting, sexual, and suspenseful! Exceptional characters that will have you on the edge of your seat and best of all the ending is one that you will never see coming. A great read any time of the year, just be sure to make time because you will not be able to put this down.”-Dee, Donadee’s Corner
In Conversation With Elyse Douglas, Authors of City of Deadly Dreams
Hi Elyse, Welcome to Teddy Rose Book Reviews Plus! Thank you for agreeing to this interview.
TR: Please tell us something about ‘The City of Deadly Dreams’ that is not in the summary. (About the book, character you particularly enjoyed writing, etc.)
ED: Both PI Dane Cooper and former schoolteacher Darcy-Lynn Roberts have painful pasts that haunt them. They are struggling to move on with their lives, but neither can. They fall into a flawed relationship, as if by accident, and both are aware it won’t last. Nonetheless, they’re lonely and hurting and, for a time when they’re together, some of the hurt and loneliness fade.
TR: What is your favorite scene in the book? Why?
ED: Chapters 18 and 19 that take place in Montauk, NY are particular favorites. They reveal much about Dane’s and Darcy’s characters; they are atmospheric and there’s a lot of unpredictable action that leads to the climax of the novel.
TR: I always enjoy looking at the names that authors choose to give their characters. Where do you derive the names of your characters? Are they based on real people you knew or now know in real life? How do you create names for your characters?
ED: Sometimes, the name comes as soon as the character is born, but that’s an exception. Most of the time, a strong cup of coffee is needed for a search on the internet, on Facebook and in magazines. It can take a day or a week before the name lights up and says, “Yes, that’s the name for me!”
TR: Dane Cooper is also quite a complex character. I get the sense he has a lot more cases to solve and stories to tell. Will readers hear from him again?
ED: That will depend on sales, reviews, and comments. If people enjoy the book, and if there’s interest, then we have another plot in mind.
TR: Where did you get the inspiration for your cover?
ED: Mainly from the New York skyline at night. One never tires of viewing the city when it lights up after sunset. The second inspiration was from F. Scott Fitzgerald. In a posthumous essay collection called My Lost City, Fitzgerald chronicled his move to New York in 1919—renting a room, working at an ad agency, and waiting for Zelda Sayre to leave Alabama and marry him. He wrote, “New York had all the iridescence of the beginning of the world.”
TR: You have written across many book genres, what drew you to this genre?
ED: Growing up, I read many mysteries and thought it would be fun to try something new—take a risk, create a flawed detective and play with darker themes than those in time travel or Christmas novels.
TR: What are you currently working on?
ED: We have two books in the pipeline.
First, TIME VISITOR will be released sometime in the fall of 2021. In 2005, a young widow encounters a handsome time traveling Navy pilot from 1944, after he lands near her home. They fall in love, but when an angry, powerful suitor discovers the Navy pilot’s astonishing identity, the couple must fly off… and they crash-land into another time.
The second book is the fifth book in The Christmas Eve Series, entitled THE CHRISTMAS EVE JOURNEY. Eve and Patrick Gantly are off on another time travel adventure. The book will be released in September 2021.
Thank you, Teddy for your questions, and for hosting us on the City of Deadly Dreams Book Tour.
